UK Back-To-School Promotion Begins

Apple has started it's "Back To School" promotion here in the UK, which allows you to buy any Mac (except the Mini) and a iPod Nano or Touch and receive a £95.00 rebate which doesn't quite cover the cost of the iPod which start at £109.00.

The promotion runs till October 31st and is available to Students & Teachers. 

 
Apple Set To Open 4 New U.S. Retail Stores

Apple is scheduled four new retails stores in the U.S. set to open this weekend on the 20th of September, the four stores are located in the following areas:

 

  • Hillsdale Mall - San Mateo, CA
  • 272 East Via Rancho Parkway - Escondido, CA
  • 142 City Park Center - Lancaster, PA
  • 1885 Briargate Parkway - Colorado Springs, CO

Video Industry's Great 'Open' Escape Plan

The Video industry is planning to break Apples strangle hold on downloaded media. Sony and a group of Media heavy-weights are planning to prevent Apple getting the hold on the video download sector by developing an 'open' standard that will allow videos downloaded from any of the partners services work on a huge range of devices.

Mac OS X 10.5.5 Released

Apple has finally released Mac OS X 10.5.5 after weeks of seeding test releases to developers, the upgrade is available via "Software Update".

Notable updates included are:

 

  • Improved video playback, core idling issues and remote disc issues for Macbook Air
  • Improvements in Spotlight indexing speed

New Mabooks En-Route to Stores Already?

Richard Garner an analyst at Citigroup has stated that he believes Apple is already shipping the next generation Macbooks to its stores ready for their imminent release, he has cited "Field Checks" as his reasoning behind his statement.

Garner has also stated that among the new features are LED Backlighting and a very thin aluminium case. as well as a very aggressive price point for the unit.
