Apple claims to have produced the world's thinnest notebook, but this is apparently not true as the Mitsubishi Pedion maintained a uniform thickness of just 0.72 inches when closed with is slightly smaller than the Macbook Air's 0.76 inches at it's thickest point. This system did how ever only have a 12 inch screen and a 233MHz Pentium MMX CPU, but even still the system did require some custom designed components.
Other notebooks have come close such as a Sony Vaio sub-notebook claim challengers to Apple's Macbook Air claim.
