A percentage of AT&T iPhone users are reporting the inability to use AT&T's EDGE network, and issues sending text messages (SMS) essentially removing one of the iPhones touted features, "Data on the move". Accounts at AT&T and Apple's Discussion Forums detail customers receiving messages informing them there were no longer subscribed to the EDGE network, forcing the users to call AT&T for an explanation and hopefully a solution. For the moment however the solution is to switch to AT&T's Pay-Per-Kilobyte data service which AT&T promise it will refund later.
Originally iPhone users blamed the recently released 1.1.3 Firmware for the iPhone, but AT&T support stated that the time of the service error is coincidental, and instead blames GoPhone PAYG plans which are accidentally dropping the MediaNet component due to a computer error. AT&T has stated it is working on a solution but as of yet has no estimated time of service restoration.
